the knees is GIMP

wtf my knees are gimp. at first i thought it was ITBS. there might have been some slight ITBS involvement but now it also hurts a little under the more medial section of the kneecap. so who knows what it is! i was doing a straight-legged foot-turned-out limp for a day to rest my lateral knee but this might have aggravated the medial. my right knee aches a bit too. WTF. i was promised better genes than this.

so for the time being it's impossible to properly train for the half-marathon. instead, i'll go to the gym or a track every day and attempt tempo-style runs until my knee hurts, and then make up for the rest of the time on the recumbent bike. tempo is warmup, then 3-5 miles at roughly race pace, then cooldown. the recumbent bike is a godsend. it doesn't get your heartrate quite as high if you've been running but it gives your buttocks a shameful burn. once i can complete a tempo run, i'll drop back into training. but there isn't much time!

this week: monday - pain too great did nothing. tuesday - recumbent bike 20 min. wed - slow jog 5 min, supersculpt class, then slow jog 5 min. thur - initiated tempo: warmup 1 mi, 8:43 1 mi, stopped. recumbent bike 15 min.

Mets Stadium Run

(Aug. 11, 2007)
Today I ran very very fast. Hooray!

Total time: 25:21
Pace/mile: 8:10
Gender + Age (20-29) Place: 41/230 (82nd percentile)
Gender Place: 110/601
Overall Place: 549/1564

This was at Shea Stadium and there is only next year's race remaining before it will be torn down to accomodate (probably become parking) for the new one. How sad for Mets fans. Here is a picture of the finish line, which was at home plate:

The woman who took the picture is someone who was carrying a camera whose picture Wendy offered to take. In return, she forwarded pictures of the stadium and a picture she took of us as well:

These pictures were taken after the run and the woman's arms were shaking as though she had muscular dystrophy. So you can see that the pictures are a little blurry. My stomach murmured in guilt during the five seconds it took for her to steady the camera enough to take a picture. It was very kind of her. Why do my feelings concentrate in the stomach?
