Colorado
colorado pics are up: click me
videos also exist! videos here
notable moments:
- neil gashes lip
- assaf embraces a tree between his legs, nearly at the crotch
- anton nearly smacks stas in the face with his board
- assaf jumps into a stream
- roma jumps into a stream
- i fall with my board stuck between two trees and my head downhill from them
- our connecting flight is cancelled so we get another day. anton gets us 3 rooms with a king-sized bed in each
- my bindings break, assaf's skis are destroyed (oh man, need pic!). riding continues
coloradans or whatever they call themselves are suprisingly easy to agitate. perhaps it's all the tourists disturbing their "local" culture. we managed to throw a liquor store manager into a fit over selling loose bottles of beer, a member of the ski patrol stalks assaf and stas on our last run, saying "would you mind going down a little faster", a restaurant manager berates a waiter for allowing us to order dinner 2 minutes before closing time, and a group of testy local patrons in a sushi restaurant drives the waitress to tears.
copper mountain isn't very exciting. the locals tout its laid-back attitude (questionable) and unexplored backcountry (not very much). breckenridge is splendid when it snows. it snowed every day we were there. 10/10 on my favourites, the tree runs: the burn, windows 1 & 2. breck's base elevation is 9600 feet and its vertical rise is nearly 4000 feet. the first day we all had headaches. in the videos you can hear me panting for air. by the time we left our bodies had only begun to acclimate to the elevation, but i can't wait to take a 3+ mile run at sea level again to see if there is a difference.
i managed to do my first 180s. the board drags the snow but still it is done! it is time to buy a board.
