First Knitting Project

Our last minute gift for our mother: our first knitted project. Being last minute, this gift required 24/7 knitting, even on public transportation in a foreign city while chatting with cousins

success! although the pattern turned out a bit too camo. so our mother is now a pink soljah

All Halloween Candies Aren't Created Equal

my boss gave us gift cards with 2 handfuls of candies in little gift bags. the last time i had candy was several weeks before halloween when she had a bucket in her office. so, out of concern about this latest bag of candy i looked up the calories in a mini twix and came across this brilliant article: "All Halloween Candies Aren't Created Equal"

the author gives a comparison of various similar (or not-so-similar) treats, such as chocolate raisins V hershey's kisses, pumpkin seeds V gummy bears, so you always have a healthier (this does not constitute "healthy") alternative. then he compares apples and candied apple. lol. what a dilemma!

he ends with a list of tips, sadistic and otherwise facetious:

Admittedly, eating candy on Halloween is a must. However, it does not have to be excessive or result in diet sabotage. Here are a few ways to compensate for Halloween indulgence.

Keep it high: Place the candy for trick-or-treaters upstairs so you have to run up and down the stairs to get it - do this 10 times and you've burned about 68 calories.

Walk it off: Take your children trick-or-treating and keep up with them! Three hours can burn 300 to 500 calories.

Don't go far out: Don't buy Halloween candy too far in advance; you'll have less time to eat it!

Don't enjoy: When buying candy for trick-or-treaters, choose kinds you don't like.

Work it: Make your child's costume. Sewing burns about 100 calories per hour.
