yoga bear
so last night i took a supersculpt and yoga class. supersculpt basically focuses on your upper legs/butt, upper arms, and abdomen, the parts in people that normally bulge in unfabulous ways. the instructor was pretty cool, very smiley and encouraging and she had really really good trance music and was very prepared - she had exercises set in tune to the music and her program progressed with the music. there was this really really cute old woman who sat herself in the way back and followed maybe half of the routine because the rest were too strenuous with her. i think she skipped anything involving balancing herself a few inches above the mat, and abdominal exercises. instead she would lie down and take a break and probably doze off for a few minutes. in contrast to her was this chunky ugly narcissistic lump who kept trying to chat it up with the instructor. she walked in in a natty stained leopard-print sports bra, belly hanging out, hair knotty and poorly dyed, with white roots showing through. that is not something you want to see.
anyway next was yoga. i think the most difficult thing about yoga is learning not to laugh, which tenses your muscles and completely breaks your concentration. i'm not sure i should be so concerned though, next thing i might start foregoing red meat (the horror!). i mean, it's just damn funny! i think the one the instructor taught us was vinyasa yoga and about.com says it's the kind that's focused on "healing, flexibility, and strength of joints". you start off by imagining a ball of light flowing through you. well: iiinnn through your breath and doowwwn through your sternum and uuup through the small of your back and imagine this bright white ball of light coming doooowwwwn again through your sternum...yea you get the idea. and then you exhale and release that ball of light and fiiiind your core. in-between every exercise you put your palms together in the praying position. actually, when we started off she made us pose like that, legs crossed, and say ohmmmmmmmmmm. the instructor was adorable though, she was very pregnant and aside from being a yoga instructor didn't seem the "otherworldly" type. i'll probably go back because it's a good way to stretch after supersculpt and it's really good for balance and posture. and you just look so damn cool in some of the poses. /narcissist
