international street fair

on saturday we went to the international street fair and walked around there for about 4 hours. it was me, jon, brother & co., ben & co. my lunch: raw clams (YUM), thai iced tea x 2.5, corn, pad thai. it's pretty much like any other street fair but since it was in the meatpacking district and happened to pass several seafood markets, they had live shellfish. and fried. but frying masks the flavor with grease ew. and they had a little podium in the middle where some people were performing some sort of traditional european dance. i don't know what country. there were a lot of thai food stands and not as many sausage and pepper stands though. which made me happy. they also had your usual racks of meat, but this was something they don't usually have: THE COMMUNAL TURKEY DRUMSTICK
$7, the size of one's head (the pictures show a severely depreciated drumstick) and feeds an adult family of four.
mel has excellent taste in hatsbut she is too modest to show her face ;)someone painted their poor dog. i think it was a protestor of some sort, it said USA but no flags were painted on and it wasn't in any country colors. poor poor dogthere were also arcade activities scattered near the end of the fair (it extended from 37th street to 57th street. that's the direction in which we walked. it was on 9th avenue). one of them required you to toss ping-pong balls into little bowls and for each ball that landed into a bowl, you got a little goldfish. ben: "BEER PONG!". so between ben and jon they won three goldfish. jon took them home and as of today, they are still alive!
